Benefits of Growing Our Food Locally

Organic foods often have more beneficial nutrients, such as antioxidants, than their conventionally-grown counterparts and people with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives often find their symptoms lessen or go away when they eat only organic foods. Producing and Eating a high-nutrient diet actually makes you more satisfied with less food, and actually gives the ability to enjoy food more without overeating. What does it benefit us by growing our food locally?

Financial: Money stays within the local economy. More money goes directly to the farmer, instead of to things like marketing and distribution.

Freshness: Local food is harvested when ripe and thus fresher and full of flavor.

Small local farmers often use organic methods but sometimes cannot afford to become certified organic. After visiting farmers market by Mbiame New Vision Multipurpose Farming and Development and talking with the farmers to find out what methods they use, it was realized that many farmers are willing to practice organic farming but have a common problem which is that of getting certified. This can not be achieved alone we need partners to team up with us and get organic farmers in our communities certified for Mbiame New Vision Multipurpose Farming and Development can not succeed as a single entity promoting this sector of regenerative farming practices in Cameroon. #mbiamenewvision
